Make Your Foot Pedal Stay Put
|October 23, 2000||in Tips|
You’ll stay healthier and sew more efficiently if you’re not chasing your foot pedal around the floor. Here’s a simple solution.
It is important to maintain good posture while sitting at your sewing machine. But chasing the foot pedal around the floor will undermine your best efforts at maintaining your physical well being.
Our reader Sonia Tuttle has solved this problem. She says:
“When using my sewing machine, I keep the foot pedal from sliding away by putting an old mouse pad underneath it. I used a thick mouse pad that was covered with cloth, but I pulled the cloth off to make it non-skid on both sides.”
Duffy C. writes:
“To avoid having to chase my sewing machine foot contol around as it slid on the carpet, I put adhesive-backed Velcro (the ‘hooks’ half, not the ‘loops’ half) on the bottom of the control.
“The Velcro hooks grab the carpet, so the control is always in the right place. And it can easily be pulled free of the carpet if I need to take my machine to another location.”

“Keeping your foot pedal in place a problem? Contact makes a rubbery shelf liner for your kitchen cabinets. A hunk off of that roll works great without the thickness of a mousepad.
“Also, before Contact came out with this product, I used a similiar 6″ square of rubbery cloth that sold at a kitchen supply store as a jar opener…it grips!”
