Quilter's Review Sampler

Piecing It All Together
I always wonder about using adhesives in my quilts -- fusible web, fusible batting, basting spray, and so on. They're wonderfully convenient, but what's their impact on the long-term life of the quilt?
If you've wondered, too, then you should read this paper on "The Effects of Light and Ageing on Selected Quilting Products Containing Adhesives." It contains specific results for specific products (and not all the results were good!), but perhaps the most important thing I learned by reading it is that it's not safe to generalize -- there's a lot of variation, even among apparently similar products.
Speaking of quilts made to last, I really enjoyed reviewing the Kay-Shuttleworth Collections CD-ROM for you this week. It's a wonderful treat to see these quilting treasures, some of them 300 years old, on my own computer screen.
This week Sophie reviews another Possibilities book for you: Super Simple Fat Quarter Quilts. And if you're thinking of heirlooms, don't miss her review of Pineapple Stars.
I'll be back in your inbox on April 18.
'Til then, happy quilting!

P.S. Need to make an easy, charming gift? My new Charming Houses wall quilt pattern is a great way to assemble a quaint village scene using fusible web applique and 6" charms from your stash. You'll love the look -- see it here -- and making it couldn't be more fun!
